Hello and welcome to UH Manoa!
First off, I want to congratulate you Freshmen on your acceptance to an awesome and diverse school. Since we’re in a mixing pot of different cultures and traditions, be prepared to see some new and exciting things in a new chapter in your life. You all have worked hard getting this far, and again I congratulate you all.
My name is Chris Arca. I was born and raised here on the beautiful island of Oahu. I’m Filipino, Chinese and Spanish. I’m going in my Senior year pursuing a B.S. in Biology and hopefully graduating in Spring 2010. I plan on applying to medical school this summer. My interests are: spearfishing, playing basketball, shadowing physicians, and spending time with the family and friends. I also work at the Learning Assistance Center tutoring introductory science subjects. Don’t worry, you guys have first dibs! I consider myself a pretty laid back guy–just go with the flow, yo!
In my Freshmen year, I was in the ACE program. This program gave me a better feel of the campus and helped me in my transition from high school. I want to share my experiences with you all and hope to learn from you as well. Maybe cooking perhaps? =) Anyway, let’s make this an awesome semester in ACE. See you guys in a few months! Shoootz!!

Hey Freshmen,
Congratulations on graduating high school and becoming the new faces on the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Here and now is the start of a new journey that will lead you to success. It’s up to you to go as far as you want. About a year ago, I was feeling the way you are feeling now. I was nervous with many questions and I wanted answers. Joining CAS 110 gave me all the answers to my questions and more. You’ll learn about all the helpful resources on campus and where to find them. You’ll also learn how to make the transition from high school to college go smoothly. You’ll have classmates to bond with that will hopefully lead to friendships. Joining CAS 110 was a good choice you all made. Now take advantage of all the opportunities handed to you.
My name is Serina-Anne Pasion, but just call me Serina. I am an upcoming sophomore and my major is Social Work and I hope to minor in Family Resources. I’m a OG (Oahu Grown) and I am the second oldest of four girls. I’m a very friendly, caring, understanding, funny, and cool person. Basically, I’m an AWESOME person. =) Once you get to know me, you’ll see that I really am. Just don’t get on my bad side. My hobbies are hanging out with my family and friends because everyone loves to hang out with their family and friends. I like to wrestle, do judo, go shopping, skateboarding, to concerts, and to the beach. I’m learning how to boogie board and surf. So if you’re down to come to the beach and teach me, let’s go! I love music and I’m currently learning how to play the ukulele. I LOVE food. Who doesn’t?? I like to do what any local girl would like to do. So that’s me and please don’t be afraid to ask me anything else.
I’m super excited to meet all of you. If you have any questions, please contact me at sacp@hawaii.edu. =)
Shooots!

Hey Guys and Gals! You guys finished high school and are about to embark on an exciting journey called college. You guys made a great choice coming to UH Manoa because there are so many things this university has to offer. The professors and other students are easy going and just great people in general
Now who am I? My name is Matt, and I’m going to be your peer mentor this upcoming semester. I was born and raised here on Oahu and graduated from Moanalua High School. I will be a senior graduating this fall with a BA in Biology and will pursue going to medical school. When I have free time I like to just hang out with my friends or go to the gym to relieve stress from school. But my friends can attest to my greatest past time, SLEEP! I never knew how precious sleep was until I came to college with homework and exams right after another. Don’t worry though, I’m here to offer my insights on how to get and stay on track throughout the year so you don’t have to stress like I did my freshman year.
I’m looking forward to meeting you guys in our little ACE clusters! There we can get to know each other better and I can help you guys get acquainted with college life at UH. I’ll give you guys my 110% effort to make your transition into college as easy and fun as possible. Enjoy your summer and see you fall!

Me and friends from high school
Hello everyone!
My name is Amy and I’ll be a peer mentor for the General Education cluster ^_^!! Congratulations for graduating High School, and I hope you all enjoy your summer! I can’t wait to meet all of you in the Fall! I never was in the ACE program when I was a freshman, but looking back now I wish I was. My transition from high school to college would have been MUCH smoother with help from ACE to show me all the available resources on campus and the ins and outs of college life. So with that being said, I hope all of you will utilize all the resources ACE has to offer!!
A little bit about myself, -_- lol…..I’m 3/4 Japanese and a 1/4 Irish and proud of it! I grew up all over the mainland because I was an Army brat, however my father was born and raised here so I have lots of family all over the aina. I love living here in Oahu because it is the most diverse and interesting place I’ve ever been to in my entire life! There is always something to do, and I’m always having a good time. I am an Art Major with a Studio focus at UHM, and I’m also a member of the Army ROTC Program. It is an amazing program that has lots to offer, and I”m planning on commissioning as a 2nd Lt. after I graduate from college. My favorite food is SUSHI (yum) and Acai bowls are a close second!
Well now that you know a little bit about me, I can’t wait to hear about you! If you have any questions what so ever please don’t hesitate to ask! My email is amikasa@hawaii.edu. Take care and have a good summer!!

Welcome!
So….
Hi everyone!
My name is Rowelle Leanne, but to keep it simple, I go by Leanne.
I am a full time student and a I work on-campus… somewhere. I am currently declared Travel Industry Management. I was born and raised on the island of Maui! My favorite colors are pink and green. I like landscape, but I’m not really into outdoor activities. I have fun, but I don’t really get along with bugs or birds…. Anyway, I like meeting new people, learning new things, reading and traveling. I am super excited to meet everyone. I hope that we get along! I hope we’re going to have fun! I hope that I can help you with your transition into the university. Everyday is a learning experience and there are a lot of things that we can understand and learn. Yay!
If you haven’t already heard, I have a lot of hopes for the class. I promise to try my best, and I hope that everyone does the same. See you in the Fall!
-Leanne
First of all, great job to all you high school graduates! You finally finished up your last year of high school and now you are headed to college. These are exciting times and with your tassels turned, you can treasure your memories from the last four years and make new ones as the fall semester begins. Some of you may wonder what college is really like and what the best way to get adjusted is. Well, ACE students are very lucky because by joining this program, all of you have a head start and will get a better grasp of what it takes to succeed in college and at the same time meet new people.
My name is Ivan and I grew up here on Oahu my whole life and love it here very much. I will be a senior pursing a B.S. in Biology with a minor in music and I intend to apply to medical school soon. I enjoy watching movies & ESPN, playing basketball, being in the band, and of course spending time with friends and family. I am also one of the Peer Advisors who work at the Pre-Health/Pre-Law Advising Center so I might run into you if you come in for advising which I highly recommend =). Along with that I’m also the Director of Student Relations for the Pre-Medical Association (PMA) and am looking forward to having an exciting club this semester. My tip now would be to enjoy your summer vacation and once school starts, take advantage of everything it has to offer by joining clubs such as PMA ; ) , checking out concerts, and participating in campus activities.
In my freshman year, I was not an ACE student but looking back, I wish I was because this program would definitely have made my transition into college more enjoyable. I’ll do my best to make sure your first semester is a great one and help everyone get off on the right foot. I am looking forward to being your Peer Mentor this semester and if you have any questions or concerns always feel free to e-mail me at ivanchik@hawaii.edu. Have a great summer and see you all in a few months!

So, a string walks into a bar and tries to order a drink, but the bartender says “We don’t serve strings here.” So the string goes outside, ruffles up his hair, ties himself in a knot, and goes back inside to order a drink. The bartender asks, “Aren’t you that string that was just in here?” And the string replies, “No, I’m afraid not“
Get it, like “a frayed knot”?
Anyways, my name is Nohea, and I like to dance. And do karaoke, surf, hike, tell jokes (with the above being my most innocent joke), etc. etc. etc. Basically I don’t like to be bored, and I’m either really active or really lazy depending on my mood.
I am currently a junior, and I will be a senior by the time I meet my ACE students. My major is Japanese and, at the time of writing this blog post I’m sitting in an apartment in Kobe, Japan. I’ve been on a study abroad program here for the past 9 months, and I come back to Hawaii tomorrow (we just finished our farewell party!). Even though my major is Japanese, I don’t like it that much, so I will probably be doing a double major once I get back, with either Psychology or Kinesiology. So basically, in a sense I will be in the same boat as a lot of Freshman, starting from lower-level classes… It’s kind of sad to think about…
My freshman year I was in an ACE cluster, and I am still really good friends with one of my ACE classmates to this day (well, we only had 4 people in my cluster, actually). Overall it was a lot of fun and it made my first semester a lot more smooth, so I hope I can provide a similar experience for you.
Some quick info about myself. I am 21 (well, 24 hours from the time of writing this is my 21st birthday). I was born in Hawaii, raised in Florida, and have also lived in upstate New York and North Carolina. My favorite colors are green and orange, and my favorite Karaoke song is “I Want it That Way” by Backstreet Boys, oh yeah, and I’m 6′2. Any other questions, e-mail me at NoheaNT@hawaii.edu . Shoots
