Aloha and welcome to your first semseter at the University of Hawaii at Manoa!!!! My name is Dorothy Terry and I will be the Peer Mentor for Cluster 10!!!! I’m so excited to meet you all. Okay, so here is a little bit about me… are you ready!?!
My name is Dorothy… as I stated above but this is just a reminder.
I’m a senior this year studying Anthropology and Classics (Latin and Greek) and I also study Ancient Egyptian Hierogylphs. I know, I like old things. This is my second year as a Peer Mentor and I love this program. I hope you will too. I am from Alabama but I was born in New Jersey. I have 2 younger sisters that drive me crazy but I love them… what can you do.
Anywho, enough about me… we’ll talk more in class. What I’m really interested in is getting to know you all. I’m looking forward to getting to know you and having some fun this semester.
So, I’ll see you in August… oh did I mention I’m going on an archaeological dig in Egypt this summer. I’ll let you know how it goes.
With much love and excitement to meet you all,
~BM (I’ll explain later)
Hey everyone & Welcome to the University of Hawaii at Manoa!
My name is Esther Kim & I’ll be one of your upcoming Ace Peer Mentors. I hope to help your transition to Manoa be a smoothe & exciting one, so prepare yourself for a fun & memorable year.
I am a full korean local girl, born and raised in the center of Oahu. (Wahiawa) I am an 07 grad entering my 3rd year of college here at UH Manoa, majoring in Fashion..otherwise known as APDM. I’m a pretty down to earth and easy going person. I like going to the beach, shopping, sleeping, watching crazy vh1 shows, and most importantly…eating.
I was in the Ace program in my freshman year of college, and I enjoyed being able to meet new friends who were going through the same experiences as me, and especially having the same classes with them. Our Ace mentor at the time was so helpful to lend a helping hand to all of us, and I am so fortunate to be able to do the same for you. Looking forward to the Fall semester with all of you! See you soon!

Welcome to UH Manoa! Congrats with all the transitions you guys have been making recently- from graduating high school, preparing for college, and (finally!) making it to summer! My name is Christy, and me, along with our other great Peer Mentors, will be helping you transition to UH this coming Fall!
Starting life in a whole new environment can be intimidating- but I know a thing or two about adjusting to new situations, and trust me, I’ve been in the same boat! To explain, I’ll share a little bit about myself- I was born and grew up on Oahu, then lived in three states on the mainland- all before high school. I went to Waiakea High on the Big Island, and since then have been enrolled at the University of San Diego, UH Manoa, and recently came back from the study abroad program Semester at Sea- Whew!
UH Manoa is where I’ve finally settled down and I couldn’t be happier. I have great classes, excellent friends, and just about everyone on campus is friendly and helpful if you return the favor!
I’m a senior majoring in Political Science with a certificate in Peace Studies. Also, I work at the Pre-Health and Pre-Law Advising Center on campus, where many of my coworkers raved about the ACE program and encouraged me to take part and be a Peer Mentor, so here I am! I’m way excited to be part of ACE and hope you guys are just as stoked!
Can’t wait to meet you!

Welcome to the University of Hawaii at Manoa! You better be excited! :D You are about to embark on a whole new journey – the first for most of you – in discovering a new place, a new atmosphere, new friends, and above all discovering yourself as an undergraduate student!
Congratulations! ¡Salud! and Bon voyage! Don’t worry or fret, it will be fun!
As an ACE Peer Mentor, I am your guide. I will give you a map to use on your journey. I’ll show you where you can find basic resources, explain to you why they are important, and give you tips on ways to survive on your own in the wild. Of course, you really aren’t alone. I as your mentor, your cluster peers, the ACE Ohana, and the great people of the University of Hawaii at Manoa are here for you as well.
So as you embark on this new journey, be confident, smile, and remember to learn from your mistakes because you will make mistakes: the glass is always half-full.

Aloha Freshmen,
My name is Kyle Bryan. I am a senior at the University and I am a student of the Shidler College of Business. This will be my second time being a peer mentor. I am really excited for theupcoming semester, and am glad that you chose to partake in the ACE program. This truly shows that you care about your college career.
Now for the best part of the letter, talking about me. I am a pretty carefree guy who likes to have fun, but I do realize and do take school seriously. I work down in the UH athletics department, and I do not live on campus. I love going to the beach, pool, movies, gym, and sporting events. I am from the Bay Area of California, 707, that’s where it be at! This means that I am a huge Bay Area sports fan. I love the San Francisco Giants, and I am sorry if you are a LA fan of any sort.
We will be having a fun semester. If you have any questions or concerns ever, feel free to shoot me an e-mail. I am always willing to talk about whatever concerns or questions anyone has. Also, I do like to emphasize that I am not just a teacher, but a peer mentor, so feel free to take full advantage of that. Have a great summer, I know that I will, and I will see you all in the fall, back on the rock!

Aloha and welcome to the wonderful world of college! Congrats on graduating high school and entering another realm of MORE school =D! Haha nah don’t worry college is a fun once-in-a-lifetime experience and we’re here to help you make the most of it!
My name’s Julianne and I’m super excited for the fall semester and meeting all of you. I’ll be a junior majoring in Travel Industry Management with an emphasis in hospitality. Right now I have a marketing internship and trying to see if marketing in the hospitality field is something I want to pursue. I’m a Yonsei (fourth-generation) full Japanese and was born in California then later moved to Colorado. Some of the hobbies include playing the ukulele, photography, singing, soccer, tennis, karate, hula, listening to music like Jake Shimabukuro and J-pop, and just chillin with my posse. We enjoy late night excursions, usually having to do with food, and just go with the flow. We are one of the most random groups you will ever encounter…we often celebrate each other’s birthdays even if it was 5 months ago. So if you can’t tell, I enjoy fun and I want to make this fall semester’s ACE class as fun as possible (while learning of course ;D)!
The high school to college transition is crazy but once you get used to it you’ll enjoy it so much and have some of the best years of your life. Well, it’s 6:38am and I’m about to go to bed…welcome to college life
.
Laters!

The "Circle"
Aloha,
My name is Jamie Lee,and I am currently a 4th year student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. This will be my first time becoming a peer mentor, and I am very excited to meet all the new people. I grew up here, on Oahu. However, I also lived 3 years in Japan. Currently, at UH, I am a Psychology major—and I really enjoy it. Aside from school, I am your everyday student who hangs out with friends, goes to work, an active volunteer, and also an active member in Psi-Chi (Psychology Honors Society). The college life is EXTREMELY busy, and sometimes it can be overwhelming, however–just remember that I am right there with you going through these everyday stresses. The important thing is to find how to balance your time between work and play. Speaking of play, my hobbies are surfing, hiking, going to the beach, and eating.
I love having an active life, and I love eating even more! Anyways, I hope I gave a slight glimpse of what I am about, and I can’t wait to meet you too!
Hello and welcome to UH Manoa!
First off, I want to congratulate you Freshmen on your acceptance to an awesome and diverse school. Since we’re in a mixing pot of different cultures and traditions, be prepared to see some new and exciting things in a new chapter in your life. You all have worked hard getting this far, and again I congratulate you all.
My name is Chris Arca. I was born and raised here on the beautiful island of Oahu. I’m Filipino, Chinese and Spanish. I’m going in my Senior year pursuing a B.S. in Biology and hopefully graduating in Spring 2010. I plan on applying to medical school this summer. My interests are: spearfishing, playing basketball, shadowing physicians, and spending time with the family and friends. I also work at the Learning Assistance Center tutoring introductory science subjects. Don’t worry, you guys have first dibs! I consider myself a pretty laid back guy–just go with the flow, yo!
In my Freshmen year, I was in the ACE program. This program gave me a better feel of the campus and helped me in my transition from high school. I want to share my experiences with you all and hope to learn from you as well. Maybe cooking perhaps? =) Anyway, let’s make this an awesome semester in ACE. See you guys in a few months! Shoootz!!

Hey Freshmen,
Congratulations on graduating high school and becoming the new faces on the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Here and now is the start of a new journey that will lead you to success. It’s up to you to go as far as you want. About a year ago, I was feeling the way you are feeling now. I was nervous with many questions and I wanted answers. Joining CAS 110 gave me all the answers to my questions and more. You’ll learn about all the helpful resources on campus and where to find them. You’ll also learn how to make the transition from high school to college go smoothly. You’ll have classmates to bond with that will hopefully lead to friendships. Joining CAS 110 was a good choice you all made. Now take advantage of all the opportunities handed to you.
My name is Serina-Anne Pasion, but just call me Serina. I am an upcoming sophomore and my major is Social Work and I hope to minor in Family Resources. I’m a OG (Oahu Grown) and I am the second oldest of four girls. I’m a very friendly, caring, understanding, funny, and cool person. Basically, I’m an AWESOME person. =) Once you get to know me, you’ll see that I really am. Just don’t get on my bad side. My hobbies are hanging out with my family and friends because everyone loves to hang out with their family and friends. I like to wrestle, do judo, go shopping, skateboarding, to concerts, and to the beach. I’m learning how to boogie board and surf. So if you’re down to come to the beach and teach me, let’s go! I love music and I’m currently learning how to play the ukulele. I LOVE food. Who doesn’t?? I like to do what any local girl would like to do. So that’s me and please don’t be afraid to ask me anything else.
I’m super excited to meet all of you. If you have any questions, please contact me at sacp@hawaii.edu. =)
Shooots!

Hey Guys and Gals! You guys finished high school and are about to embark on an exciting journey called college. You guys made a great choice coming to UH Manoa because there are so many things this university has to offer. The professors and other students are easy going and just great people in general
Now who am I? My name is Matt, and I’m going to be your peer mentor this upcoming semester. I was born and raised here on Oahu and graduated from Moanalua High School. I will be a senior graduating this fall with a BA in Biology and will pursue going to medical school. When I have free time I like to just hang out with my friends or go to the gym to relieve stress from school. But my friends can attest to my greatest past time, SLEEP! I never knew how precious sleep was until I came to college with homework and exams right after another. Don’t worry though, I’m here to offer my insights on how to get and stay on track throughout the year so you don’t have to stress like I did my freshman year.
I’m looking forward to meeting you guys in our little ACE clusters! There we can get to know each other better and I can help you guys get acquainted with college life at UH. I’ll give you guys my 110% effort to make your transition into college as easy and fun as possible. Enjoy your summer and see you fall!
